Paying It Forward

I love the feeling of helping others. It can be as simple as a smile or as complex as organizing a charity event. During my yoga teacher training, there was a big emphasis on Karma Yoga that resonated with me. I then committed to setting aside 10% of each yoga class to donate to charity. Yoga brings so much joy to my life, I want to use it to be able to bring joy to others. Over the years this money has gone towards kid’s education, women’s health, cancer research, disaster relief, and the needs of my local immigrant community.

January and February donations went to Habitat for Humanity - specifically in Lebanon to build needed housing after the explosion in Beirut.  It was a serendipitous encounter for this donation as I had not yet donated the January funds. No charity was jumping out to me for the funds and just as I was calculating February funds into the January total my doorbell rings. A previous student, now in HS, was going door to door collecting donations for Habitat Humanity as part of her National Honor Society Volunteer hours. Usually, the students would go in person to do the build, but due to the pandemic, this is put on hold, but not the fundraising for supplies to build homes. I took this as a sign and donated to this wonderful cause in hopes that quite a few families will benefit from the donation. Thank you to those that joined me on your mats to make this happen!

I have sent out a Thank You email to the front-line workers all around the world, inviting them to practice a special yoga video in hopes that it will bring some joy and restoration to those that we depend on and don’t always get the thanks that they deserve. The video is my way of saying THANK YOU! for all you do for our families and communities.

If you know of a special front-line worker that could use a little self-care and a thank you, please send them to this page for these special videos. Thank you.
